It is not mistery that we have a World with such beautiful biodiversity and it is no mistery that we are threaten this life in our planet with overexplotation of natural resources, deforastation, extractive industries and overconsumption of human beings, among other aspects.

So, what are we doing to change this reality?

Less than we can and we could do.

There are many companies developing products just to get successful because their sales and money, promoting overconsumption, and forgetting responsible consumption and production.

What it would be if we build companies and develop projects that have economic, social and environment positive impacts?

In this point is where business based on biodiversity (natural resources) can offer a good answer.

Many industries, sectors and companies can use biodiversity –in a responsible way– to develop products with added value and innovation.

 

Benefits of including biodiversity resources in your products (in a responsible way):

-       They are renewable resources.

-       Biodiversity can add value -unique and exotic- to their products.

-       There are many stories about communities, people, places and history of resources from biodiversity that can help to create storytellings to your customers, who have a responsible behavior of consumption and wants to know about the source of their products.

-       In some countries and some cases, there can be incentives from government to companies that can show their contribution to a sustainable development.

-       When your company acquires resources from biodiversity -that is cultivated and produced in developing countries (in a responsible way)-, you are helping to conserve the planet and you are contributing to the generation of better opportunities for these people.

 

The world’s megadiverse countries

Megadiverse countries house the largest indices of biodiversity in the world and a large number of endemic species.

The following list includes the 17 world’s megadiverse countries: Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Congo, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malasya, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, United States and Venezuela (more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megadiverse_countries).

These 17 countries host 70% of the recognized species and they occupy less that 10% of the planet’s surface.

As you can see, Colombia (with Biointropic) and United States (with Independent Beauty Association) are the 2 countries in this list that are represented by organizations on the Global Cosmetics Cluster.
